Julianne Moore was nominated for an Academy Award® for her performance in this adaptation of Graham Greene’s novel by Oscar®-winning writer/director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game).

In 1939 London, Sarah Miles (Moore), a passionate woman trapped in a sterile marriage, is
attracted to brooding novelist Maurice Bendrix (Ralph Fiennes) when they meet at a party given by her worthy but dull husband, Henry (Stephen Rea). But their secret love affair is abruptly ended by Sarah after Bendrix’s house is hit by a bomb during the London Blitz, and he is nearly killed.

Two years later, a chance meeting with Henry rekindles Bendrix’s obsession with Sarah.
Haunted by memories, he re-enters her life, and learns the surprising reason behind their
separation, a promise that Sarah will now find difficult to keep. (1999)
